Advantages and Benefits of Dental Implants

Overview

Though many methods exist to restore missing teeth, dental implants generate the most natural-looking and feeling results. No one, excepting yourself and your dentist, will know you have implants! The incredibly natural feel of dental implants will also allow you to speak and eat with confidence that shows.

Unlike a bridge, dental implants preserve the quality of adjacent teeth to benefit your long-term oral health. Implants leave patients’ oral environment clean and healthy.

In contrast to dentures’ irksome clicks and wobbles, secure dental implants liberate the patient from messy pastes and worries of misplaced dentures.

Dental implants are ultimately more comfortable, more stable, less expensive, aesthetically superior, and functionally preferred over alternative procedures.

Single Tooth Implant vs. A Bridge

A single tooth implant offers structural advantages that a bridge does not. While the patient’s adjacent teeth must be ground down to support a cemented bridge, a single implant leaves those teeth intact. A bridge additionally causes the bone around missing teeth to shrink. An implant, however, becomes integrated with the bone to maintain its health and structural integrity.

The hygiene of a single implant is easier to maintain than that of a bridge. Over time a bridge’s cement can deteriorate, permitting bacterial decay of the teeth that anchor the device.

A single implant is aesthetically superior as well. Over time, gums surrounding a bridge can recede to expose its unsightly metal base. Shrunken bone beneath the bridge may also produce an unattractive smile.

Implant-Supported Bridges vs. Fixed Bridges or Removable Partial Dentures

Implant-supported bridges provide structural advantages over fixed bridges and partial dentures in replacing multiple teeth. The latter both rely upon adjacent teeth for support and allow the bone around missing teeth to shrink. An implant-supported bridge, however, integrates into the bone to preserve its integrity and leaves neighboring teeth intact.

Implant-supported bridges also facilitate the maintenance of excellent oral hygiene. A bridge’s cement will deteriorate over time, permitting bacterial decay and requiring the bridge to be replaced.

Aesthetically, implant-supported bridges provide benefits as well. Over time, gums and bone surrounding a fixed bridge or partial denture can recede; shrinking bone beneath these devices may result in a collapsed, unattractive smile. Implant-supported bridges also evade the unwelcome and uncomfortable mobility of partial dentures.

Implant-Supported Full Bridges verses Conventional Full Dentures

In the absence of all teeth, an implant-supported full bridge or denture provides many advantages over conventional dentures. They integrate into the bone, preserving its health and structural integrity. Conventional dentures, conversely, allow bone to shrink around the missing teeth.

The increased stability, comfort, and durability of implant-supported full bridges or dentures also facilitate a more natural feel and appearance. They allow the confident consumption of any food.

Implant-supported full bridges or dentures provide aesthetic benefits, especially with their easy maintenance. They prevent the bone recession that accompanies conventional dentures and can result in a collapsed, unattractive smile.

Immediate vs. Delayed Implants

Traditionally, titanium posts are positioned three to four months before the replacement teeth are attached to them. Most implant restorations are performed in this manner. New techniques, such as “Teeth in a Day,” “Teeth Now,” or “Teeth Today,” however, condense the entire procedure into one or two days.
