The personal care Dr. Larson provides in his state-of-the-art dental practice extends to his dental veneer treatments as well. Replacing chipped, uneven, or spaced teeth with aligned, shapely veneers imparts radiance on any smile. Veneers restore natural beauty to teeth exceptionally worn from grinding, heavy smoking, or genetic predisposition and those severely discolored from tea, coffee, soft drinks, or medications.

Advantages and Benefits

Veneers vs. “White Filling”

Bonded to a patient’s original teeth, white fillings effectively repair small chips or cracks and protect the surrounding tooth structure. Veneers frequently produce a superior result in severe cases of dullness, wear, discoloration, chipping, cracking, spacing, and uneven teeth.

Veneers vs. A Dental Crown

Dental crowns and veneers both protect damaged tooth surfaces. Veneers, however, provide a much less invasive alternative as they require minimal (approximately 0.5mm) tooth reduction

Veneers vs. Bleaching or Lasers

While appropriate for mild discoloration or specific stains, bleaching and lasers may not adequately rejuvenate extremely discolored teeth. In such an instance, veneers provide an excellent alternative with greater longevity.

Two Types of Dental Veneer Materials

Most commonly, a dental laboratory technician constructs veneers from either porcelain or a composite resin material. Fabricated from a translucent ceramic material, veneers create bright, white and exceptionally natural smiles. This ceramic material, microscopically comprised of tiny, custom-designed shells, smoothes teeth and covers worn tooth enamel in a process analogous to the assembly of a jigsaw puzzle. Subsequently, a dentist bonds the veneers to the patient’s natural teeth using a thin layer of  resin cement. Alternatively, composite veneers may be directly fabricated and secured in an intra-oral procedure.

Aesthetically, porcelain veneers provide the best result with the greatest longevity, lasting ten to fifteen years while composite resins last five to seven.
